Do you need autofocus for moving objects

As you know I use manual focus, but do you need autofocus for moving objects? It’s an argument often raised by people when I write for exemple my article “5 resons to love manual lenses”. Well then, I guessmanual focusing is not a skill to learn, and I should really avoid photos like these since they are impossible to take with the lenses I use. Or…? ;)

Skills can be admired. Technique is “just” evolution.

Everyone should master atleast one skill. Just to get a sense of the passion and work behind the development.

If I’m to get deep, it also teaches us the way to make life worth while. You can make anything and everything happen by making it a skill. And remember, it’s fun learning.. it’s important and it’s fucking beautiful!

What did people do before auto-focus? It doesn’t take some magical skill to shoot moving subjects with manual focus. Control your depth of field, pre-focus, done. Easy.

Although I don’t mind getting credit for my super-human skills: :)

@Björn: Thanks for deep input! ;) I checked out your site, nice work and interesting read – keep it up.

@Ed: Totally true, however people seem to forget that. I’ve learned a lot from shooting manual with the EOS 350D. Before I didn’t fully understand the aperture for example, but now I can quote the “sunny 16″-rule ;)

Loving your site. I am working on perfecting manual focus skills. I feel up for the challenge and am loving my successes. I also just picked up a Cosina lens with same specs as your Yashica. Getting comfortable with that too.
