Hello! It's getting time to give this whole site a remake ;)
Well, the A stands for Auto and the M for Manual. A lets the camera do the aparture work, if your not using it on original camera it wont do much more then open the aparture all the way. You can use this as a tool like this:
1. In M-mode: set your preffered aperture
2. In A-mode: focus the lens when it is wide open on A
3. In M-mode: aperture closes and you can shoot
Offcourse the switch can be in different places on different lenses, if they have them at all.

Hi! One more thing...I may come across as a naive as I am new to collecting and even handling legacy lenses, just one question. What is the dial with M and A written on it for? I see that when I change M to A aperture blades changes to wide...?

Hello Kaybee

Thank you! :)
My photos of the lens are in black and white so that could make the difference. Weird that there is no serialno, but I can't imagine they would make a fake of a lens that is so cheap.

HI there!
I came across your site searching for Helios lens. I must say, you are an amazing photographer. I am very much impressed and inspired by all of the photos.
I am new to photography and also thinking of collecting legacy lens. However, the copy of Helios lens I am looking at has the same specs as the one you have but why does it look different? There is no serial no. and also the numbers on the body are in colour....Any idea? Are they the same or the one I am looking at a fake?
Thank you...

Yes, if it's a screwmount (m42) you need an adapter M42 / Canon EOS. You can find it at large photostores / online.

I bought it! :D
Comes with the Helios 58mm
Mine isn't BeLOMO, it's probably by KMZ from the USSR.

I) The "Antique Russian Camera" website says there are 7 types of this camera:

1. With gray plastic top, automatic diaphragm and with eyes for a shoulder strap
2. With black plastic top, automatic diaphragm, with eyes for a shoulder strap, WITHOUT lightmeter
3. With plastic black top, automatic diaphragm and with eyes for a shoulder strap
4. With white metal top, automatic diaphragm and without eyes for a shoulder strap
5. With white top, manual diaphragm and with eyes for a shoulder strap
6. With black metal top, manual diaphragm and without eyes for a shoulder strap
7. with automatic diaphragm, blackmetal tops and different eyes for a shoulder strap

How should we understand if the diaphragm is auto or manual?

II)Is there any way I could use this lens on my 400D?

Thank you so much again
